The year is flying by!  A few notes for your interest.

A very successful ESKOM / POLASA Safety Indaba took place in January at the John Maree Auditorium.  Thank you for the strong contributions from POLASA members! In March POLASA participated with ESKOM in a Security Workshop focusing on site security. Work is currently being done by ESKOM to arrange a Indaba with POLASA on “Contractor Capacity Issues Facing the Line Construction Business.”

POLASA again took a small stand at PEWA 2018 (Power & Electricity World Africa) in March 2018. Many useful contacts were made and a few new POLASA members recruited.

At present we have 41 members. It is with sincere regret and shock that we learnt that Babcock Nthuthuko Powerlines in Nigel had to retrench many employees and put their business of long standing on “Care and Maintenance.”

Please note that the diarised dates of the next POLASA Open Industry meetings (where the whole industry is invited as well as POLASA members) have now changed as follows:

Monday 16 July 2018 from 14h00  to 17h00 at the WOODMEAD Jhb Country Club.

Wednesday 7 Nov 2018 from 10h00 to 12h30 followed by the POLASA AGM to 14h00.

You are hereby formally invited to the Industry meeting of 16 July 2018.  Please confirm your participation.  The full AGENDA will be sent to respondents, but the subjects on the table will include:  Progress made (or not) achieving the 2017-18 Compact – and this year’s; The latest on the impact of the Designation of Powerline hardware and a Presentation on why ESKOM’s Specifications result in South African powerlines being more expensive that in neighbouring countries!

Please note that the venue is no longer in Aucland Park but at the JCC off Lincoln Street in Woodmead. This is reached taking the Woodmead Drive turnoff from the M1 followed by Woodlands Drive and is much closer for the ESKOM people.

We look forward to seeing you in July!
